If grandmothers around the world had a rallying cry, it would probably sound something like “You need to eat!”
Photographer Gabriele Galimberti’s grandmother said something similar to him before one of his many globetrotting work trips. To ensure he had at least one good meal, she prepared for him a dish of ravioli before he departed on one of his adventures.
“In that occasion I said to my grandma ‘You know, Grandma, there are many other grandmas around the world and most of them are really good cooks,” Galimberti wrote via email. “I’m going to meet them and ask them to cook for me so I can show you that you don’t have to be worried for me and the food that I will eat!’ This is the way my project was born!”
The project, “Delicatessen With Love”, took Galimberti to 58 countries where he photographed grandmothers with both the ingredients and finished signature dishes.
He acted as photographer and stylist during each shoot with the grandmothers, taking a portrait of both the women and the food they made for him.
From top to bottom:
Inara Runtule, 68, Kekava, Latvia. Silke (herring with potatoes and cottage cheese).
Grace Estibero, 82, Mumbai, India. Chicken vindaloo.Susann Soresen, 81, Homer, Alaska. Moose steak.
Serette Charles, 63, Saint-Jean du Sud, Haiti. Lambi in creole sauce.
The photographer’s grandmother Marisa Batini, 80, Castiglion Fiorentino, Italy. Swiss chard and ricotta Ravioli with meat sauce.
Normita Sambu Arap, 65, Oltepessi (Masaai Mara), Kenya. Mboga and orgali (white corn polenta with vegetables and goat).
Julia Enaigua, 71, La Paz, Bolivia. Queso Humacha (vegetables and fresh cheese soup).
Fifi Makhmer, 62, Cairo, Egypt. Kuoshry (pasta, rice and legumes pie).
Isolina Perez De Vargas, 83, Mendoza, Argentina. Asado criollo (mixed meats barbecue).
Bisrat Melake, 60, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Enjera with curry and vegetables.
That Kenyan dish (white corn, veggies, and goat) is called ugali, sukuma wiki, and nyama choma. This is literally the most filling and surprisingly amazing meal.
My Grandma’s plate would just be Bacon and Rice. That’s why I love Bacon so much. Miss you, NanaySource: Slate

So I finished my last final of my college career today.
It doesn’t feel like it and reality hasn’t smacked me across the face yet. I started thinking about certain things as I munch on leftover chinese and wash it down with a few beers.
But it felt weird. Something wasn’t right until I realized that I’m so used to being around my friends that eating in my room by myself with nothing to to wasn’t normal.
I was finally bored.
This semester and the past year has been one of the busiest moments by far and I truly enjoyed how the time flowed by. I like to believe that I am at my finest when my schedule is packed and there’s so many things to do.
I’m going to miss this. I don’t want to graduate yet.
“College should be 7 years…”
I’ve been hearing this phrase a lot these days. It makes me laugh when I look back to freshman year and how I messed up my priorities.
I’m happy with the person I’m becoming despite my imperfections.
I just wish that there was at least another week of school so I can finally settle with my feelings.
So happy I met certain people this semester and I hope these relationships last.
Forever Penn State and Forever HRIM.

Thursdays
I find it very difficult to keep myself focused since last Thursday.
I enjoyed everything about that day and what we accomplished as a team will have a special place in my heart. Looking back at the begining of the sememster, I’ve gained so much knowledge and grown as a person. I believe that it was meant to be to change into the Thursday section as I remember how anxious I was to go through this sememster.
No other class would be able to teach me the reason as to why I chose this major and why I’m so passionate for it.
I wish that I had met these special people before my last semester. It’s funny how much I wish everyday were to be a Thursday.
Staying in the kitchen from 2pm to midnight everyday would be way too much fun that I would be exhausted from laughing than working.
I’m so grateful for what this class has taught me and I am in full denial of graduation.
